Mountain Festival observed amid various programs in Pokhara

Mountain Festival 2014 concluded on Friday, December 12, 2014 amid various programs at Ratopaira-based International Mountain Museum in Pokhara.

Organized by Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) for the first time in Nepal, the festival aims to enhance the livelihood of poor people through the demonstration of technology, innovations and knowledge.

The three-day event saw various programs as the meeting of Himalayan Host countries, interaction among the tourist entrepreneurs and food festival, among others.

The festival organized to mark the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the maiden ascent of Mt Cho Oyu also saw an inter-school five-kilometre race competition.

According to Aang Tshering Sherpa, Chairman of the NMA, the meeting of the Himalayan Host countries held on Tuesday, has decided to recommend six additional mountains that are above 8000 metres to the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIEAA) for the authentication.

On the occasion, an interaction program among the tourism entrepreneurs was also held with an objective to promote mountain tourism, according to Dr Ganesh Gurung, the Adviser to NMA.

The event was attended by some 5,000 individuals.
